How to Use Castor Oil for Hair Growth

Age has a great effect on hair. As we grow older, our hair becomes shorter, thinner and begins to fall off. It is normal for women to experience changes in their hair post-pregnancy and as they enter the menopause.

Genetic hair loss is the most common hair loss problem affecting men and women. Hormonal imbalance including thyroid dysfunction can equally affect hair growth drastically.

Benefits of castor oil

Castor oil has natural antibacterial and anti-fungal properties and is rich in proteins, vitamin E, minerals, and omega 6 and 9 beneficial fatty acids for preventing hair loss. Its ricinoleic acid ratio makes it useful to hair loss. Castor oil also has traditionally been used topically for acne and other skin conditions as well as hair loss, rashes and more.

How does it work

Castor oil can be used on the scalp to prevent and remedy hair loss and for several reasons it is effective in this. Its antibacterial and antifungal properties make it beneficial against folliculitus, scalp infections, and dandruff. Its ricinoleic acid content increases circulation to the scalp and stimulates hair growth.

Ricinoleic acid also helps balance scalp pH that helps replace the scalp’s natural oils and some of the damages of harsh chemical hair growth products.

The antioxidant in castor oil support the keratin in hair and helps make hair stronger and less frizzy.

How to use castor oil treatment on hair

Castor oil can be potent for hair growth if used properly. For an all-over treatment only a small amount of oil can be used, only a few drops are required per treatment, the additional oils are totally optional. It can be used two or three times weekly.

After applying, use a shower cap or towel to cover hair, to avoid getting oil on your pillow. Removing of castor oil from bed sheets or pillow cases can be quite difficult. But if you apply a small amount and leave it an overnight, it will result in most of the oil absorbing into the hair and scalp and make cleanup easier.

Alternatively:

Crack an egg and whisk until smooth and then massage the egg into the scalp. This helps break down the oil and adds additional nutrients. After that wash it with water.

Castor Oil Hair Serum:

  • Three tablespoons of castor oil
  • One tablespoon of Jojoba oil or Argan oil.

Mix the ingredients in a dark colored dropper bottle, shake well. Use the dropper to apply to the scalp. Then massage for five minutes. It will help to increase circulation. Expect to see remarkable improvements in your hair in a couple of weeks.
