After cooking and enjoying juicy mouth-watering meats, then come the not too pleasant task of having to scrub the grill, which can be a messy and backbreaking process. However, the good news is that there is a cheap, non-toxic alternative to getting all that grease off your grill – the use of onion.
You can simply use an ordinary onion to clean that nasty grill. Do this by scrubbing a halved onion faced downwards on a heated grate to remove accumulated grime. It’s best to get the grill super-hot first to burn off any remaining food. Next, rub it hard with an onion stuck on the end of a long grilling fork. You can also spray the grates with lemon juice or white vinegar first to increase its effectiveness. The extra acidity helps with the cleaning process.
Onions contains natural antibacterial properties. You can even add flavor to whatever you are grilling by throwing the used onion right in the coals when you’re finished.
