A glass of warm turmeric milk before retiring for the night can be used to get rid of insomnia. Turmeric contains an amino acid called tryptophan, when taken, it calms down nerves and induce sleepiness.

  1. Nutmeg milk

Taking nutmeg can help increase the production of serotonin (a chemical in the brain that regulates the sleep cycle) in the body. It contains myristicin that prevents the secretion of enzymes induced by stress. You can add a pinch of nutmeg powder to a glass of warm milk and drink it before bed.

  1. Cow milk collected at night

Drinking cow milk collected during night time can help you have a good night’s sleep, according to a research in South Korea. The researchers say that milk collected during night time is rich in tryptophan and melatonin (naturally occurring hormones which helps regulate the sleep and wake cycle). Tryptophan can be converted to serotonin and melatonin.

  1. Banana peel tea

Bananas and their peels contains lots of electrolytes that promote sleep. They contain tryptophan which can be converted to serotonin in the brain. Banana peel tea can be prepared by cutting the banana (along with peel) in half and boil it in water for 10 minutes. Allow the water to cool before drinking it to promote sleep.
