Some foods we love eating are actually deadly, especially when you consume them in high quantity. If you eat any of these foods, just make certain that you eat the right parts and in small quantities.

  1. Kidney Beans

Raw kidney beans contains lectin, a glyprotein, which makes them very poisonous. This substance causes diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Lectin is also found in other beans, but a higher concentration of the substance is found in kidney beans. You have to cook kidney bean thoroughly before eating to avoid kidney bean poisoning. It only takes four or five raw or uncooked beans to cause harm.

  1. Mushrooms

Most people including experts, find it difficult to distinguish edible mushrooms from the wild, poisonous ones. So, to be on the safer side, avoid eating mushrooms, or if you must, go for the grocery store offerings. Poisonous mushrooms contain toxins like orellanine, gyromitrin, and alpha-amanitin. Eating a poisonous mushroom, whether cooked or uncooked, may lead to liver failure.

Tomatoes, along with eggplants and belladonna contains an alkaloid called solanine, that when taken in large quantity can trigger gastrointestinal symptoms, hallucinations, paralysis and in severe cases, death.

The leaves and stems of tomato, eggplant, or potato are very poisonous and should not be consumed. Also, avoid green potatoes because they contain high levels of solanine.

  1. Bitter Almonds

Apart from the sweet almond tree where the regular almonds is gotten from, there’s also another tree that produces bitter almonds. The bitter almond is a very pretty tree with poisonous nuts that are full of a deadly poison called cyanide.

Bitter and sweet almonds both look very similar, so you have to exercise caution.

Cassava is not common in mainland US, but it is a staple in tropical countries. It is also known as yuca, manioc, or Brazilian arrowroot. It is a brown root that shows up in grocery stores that cater to ethnic populations.

The cooked root is delicious, but the raw root contains several different types of cyanide. If it is improperly prepared it is quite poisonous. Cassava is a vegetable that is probably best left to people who know what they are doing.

Nutmeg is used for culinary purpose to give sweet taste to pies, coffee and hot spiced cider. For medicinal purpose, it is used to ease tooth pain and muscle cramps.

  1. Apple Seeds and Cherry, Apricot and Peach Pits

Apple seeds are toxic, especially when eaten excessively. It is a lot easier to eat apple seeds than the pits of cherry, peach or apricot. Apple seeds contain amygdalin. If you digest them, particularly if they are chewed, amygdalin converts into hydrogen cyanide, which can be very harmful to the body.

However, a person may need to chew about two cups of apple seeds for it to harm the body. Swallowing one or two will cause no harm.
